Weekend Projects --- Chalkboard Calendar

Back for another Weekend Projects! I really enjoyed going through all the inspiration last weekend and actually finishing the project! Let's hope I can keep it up this weekend.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of my favorite things in the old apartment was the chalkboard wall we had in the kitchen. I never really got around to blogging about it. Which was a shame because it was pretty cool.

We used it all the time! It had our chore list, weekend projects, grocery list, calendar and an area for Story to color.

I really miss having that area. Now that we have more space in our Townhouse I have big plans :)

I am really excited to get going on this project. I've taped out the rough outline and Jordan has measured it out for me on paper. Hopefully I can get the rest of it taped without any problems. With Story starting school and Jordan and I both getting new jobs, we really need a place to write down all of our activities.

Painted Powder Room

I know I said Monday. I even had it finished by Monday. I just didn't get around to finishing the post...... At least you got to see the updated foyer :) So, like I hinted at in the first ever "Weekend Plans" here at Pike's Place blog, I painted the small powder room in our Townhouse. It's the same color as the full bath in our old apartment, which is Poppyseed by Behr. I really like the richness of the color. I like that it's grey with a hint of blue undertones. While I enjoyed it in the full bath, there was just too much ivory tile. It sort of made the entire space look dirty. There is still the same tile in the powder room, but much more wall space.

Before

All of the walls are off white, as is the appliances, tile, baseboard and flooring. The light fixtures and mirrors are all chrome plated. And, of course the door knobs are gold colored. Makes for a fun trip back to 1990. We try and update everything we can, but there are a few things we're not allowed to change.

What I noticed first was how much whiter everything looked. I was afraid the color would make it all look darker. It was a nice surprise.

That door. Oh that door. It took so long to paint. Way too many coats to cover it all.

I've just started decorating. I knew that I wanted the walls painted, and that's as far as I got. I did add an Ikea towel bar that I spray painted gold a few months ago. I added another Ikea hanging storage thing. A plain white hand towel from Target and an old bird container from World Market.

I decided to paint everything. I thought it would look strange if the trim and doors were off white. I kind of wanted it all to blend in. I ran out of paint before I could paint the ceiling, but I'm pretty sure it will look awesome when everything is the same color.

Over all I am pleased with how it's turning out. Not a whole lot left to do in this room. Which is good, cause it's the tiniest room ever.

To-do

Add art
Add shelves above toilet
New rug
Change light switch and cover
New lighting

Townhouse Foyer

I have been making steady progress here in the new house. It's slow going, very slow going, but steady. First thing I really tackled was the foyer. It's not big, or very well laid out. The only things we really have left to unpack is the decor items. So, I decided to take on the first space you see when you walk in the door. Bear with me, this area is like a cave.

Here is the after.

I was really excited to put up the "HELLO". I loved how you could see it when you walked in the front door at the old house. I would like to put up the gallery wall next to the hello, going up the stairs. I would also like to add a rug and fill in some of the white space with a few more frames. I have a dresser next to the door right now that has all of my office supplies. I don't really like it there, so I would like to change that out for something different. Not sure yet. I might like it more if I would actually paint it. Or even finish priming it. I would also like to stain the small dresser. Not sure what color for that either... I'm just really glad to at least have one space that feels like us!

Weekend Projects

Taking a cue from Kayla over at Home Coming, I've decided to start a "Weekend Projects" series. Hopefully it will keep me on task and held accountable to getting this house finished started. I probably won't be able to finish a project a weekend. Mostly because of my work schedule. But, this weekend I have two days off!

My first real project for the townhouse is the powder room downstairs. Because it's such a small space I assumed it wouldn't take too long to finish. Boy, was I wrong. There are so many tight corners, I have a lot of trim work to paint. And to top it all off there is a slat door. UGH!!!! It's taking way too long to finish. I gathered a bit of inspiration, enjoy!

Notice a theme yet? Beside being the slowest project ever, I have a feeling it's going to look super cool. I hope to have it finished and photographed my Monday. Wish me luck! :)
