Indiana House : First Look {Kitchen}

Hello everyone!!!!!

My computer tells me it's the last day of April, but in all honesty I have no idea what day it is. I'm not even sure how long we've been here. Our move was so stressful and tiring. We rented a 17' truck on a Friday afternoon. The plan was to get everything on the truck that night. Mainly so we could get the tow car attached. Ha! Such a funny joke we played on ourselves. By 10 that night we still had so much left to do, and the truck was practically full. We were freaking out! What would we do if it didn't all fit? Could we get a bigger truck? Could we get a small trailer to tow? Would we have to leave it all? After a fitful last night, on the floor, of our house we got up and just packed as much as we could. We would just have to store the rest. So by 5 Saturday evening we were all packed up and ready to leave on our 10+ trip to Indiana. The trip was very slow going. We had to go 50mph most of the way. We stopped to rest in Charleston, WV around 2 a.m. Sunday morning. So, at 4:30 Sunday, we were into our new apartment. We unpacked the truck (this time with help) and finally rested. I guess it's been a week now. The first thing I did was get the kitchen functioning. Then I tackled the bathrooms. We have our bed set up, but still need to put Story's together. Jordan had to start work the day after we moved in, so we're waiting for his days off to get the big stuff put together.

The kitchen is coming together nicely. Even though it is smaller than our old one, I feel like we have more space. More functioning space I should say. It's obviously still a work in progress. We don't have any of the decor out.

Oh yeah. we're painting the kitchen the same color as the old cabinets.     The kitchen has fluorescent lighting, and we hate it. So for now we are using the small light under the sink and over the stove.

The plan is to put shelves on the wall over the dishwasher.

Our island fits really nicely against the long wall. We will probably put more shelves above the island. Not sure about that. It might just be a really awesome piece of art, that we don't have yet :)

Each room in the house is about this put together. I did move a lot of random items of the way. For now, storage is complicated. I'm storing boxes that will eventually be unloaded after I get a certain area put together. It's a weird cycle. But, it's getting done. It's slowly getting done. That's the beauty of moving.

Thanks for sticking with me. I will have a lot more to share in the upcoming weeks!

5/25 update

The kitchen is almost completely painted!

You can see the rest of it here and here.

We made it!

Just a short post to let you know we made it into our new house. After over 24 hours of moving by ourselves followed by 2 days of driving a u haul while towing a car and driving another. We got in around 5 yesterday evening and had a marathon unpacking session. We are now taking it slow. Jordan starts work tomorrow. In the mean time we have about 100 boxes to unpack.

What I Wore

tank, flats- Target. wrap- Gift. maxi skirt- Thrifted.

I tried loose waves today instead of actual curls. I'm not fond of the turnout, but it was the first time trying it. I'm going to practice more.

Sorry there are not anymore outfits. Most of our clothes are packed up. I only kept out causal clothes that I can pack, clean and drive in :)

We really didn't do much this week. Still packing and trying to live a somewhat normal life. It was my last week at work, last night being Saturday. This upcoming week is our last in the state. We are heading out Saturday morning. I hope to have pictures of the trip, and 2 empty houses :)

Foyer Ideas

I've been thinking a lot about foyers lately. Our new apartment doesn't technically have one, but it is laid out in a way that I think I can turn a small area into a foyer/entrance type thing. Ya know? :)

Here is the floor plans

It's not much space, and it might not be the best use of space. I'll know for sure once we see the place in person. This is  not the best shots of the area, but hey, it was just a quick tour of the place.

As you can tell, the door opens up and the first thing you'll see is a wall. Once you turn you will see the rest of the living room, the balcony and possibly part of the dining room. I want to make an area that represents us. I want it to be somewhere we can drop our bags, keys, whatever.

I'm not sure where I'm going, style wise, with the new house. I like the simple, yet put together look of this space. I think it could be something we could achieve with pieces we already have. I go back and forth, a lot, between minimalist and eclectic. Most days I like the look of many pieces out. But sometimes it becomes so overwhelming. ....... I like the idea of a chair in the corner. Maybe we could have a shoe storage system as well.

I'm also thinking about putting up a gallery wall on the wall dividing the kitchen from the living room. It will be similar to what we had, but completed :)

But taking up an entire wall with frames might not be the best use of space. I like the idea of a Carrie Bradshaw- esq library.

I bet that would be a lot of fun. Mostly because I have to go from foyer to office to living room. That wall might make a good transitional area.

I've also been thinking about a bold color or even a creative stencil.

So many thoughts going through my head about our new house. We are moving in exactly one week and I'm slightly freaking out about it. I'm so excited about moving, but I think there is so much that still needs to be done. We have almost all of our lives packed up, there are boxes everywhere and I look around, and there is still so much left out. This week is going to be extremely stressful, followed by a very long drive. But in the end we will be in a new place, starting new jobs, and moving forward with our lives. I can't wait :)

Bare Bones Apartment Tour

My wonderful in-laws visited our apartment.   They met with the owners and got a feel of the place for us. We're really grateful for that. If they hadn't, we would have had to make a special trip to apartment hunt. :) With their approval, and the okayness of the apartment, we were able to call it our own.

Floor Plan

When you first walk in the door. (minus the FAL)

Around the corner

Kitchen

Deck

There is a hallway leading to the bedrooms and bathroom

There are 3 bedrooms, each pretty much the same.

Half Bath attached to the master bedroom

Main Bath

And that's it for now. We're still waiting on a few things to clear before we make the move. Should be there before May! We are still packing up. It amazes me how much stuff we fit into this tiny duplex.

Though we're still sad about leaving, we are very excited to take this next step in our journey. I've been doing a lot of  pinning lately. I'm also planning a post to give you an idea of what I want the apartment to look like.

Fun stuff :) :)

100th Post! And A Major Announcement!

100th Post!

I can't believe this is actually my 100th post. It seems like just a few months ago that I started blogging. Mainly about our little rental house, and a bit about our little family. Then I started to branch out with the fashion posts and WIW. It's been a blast so far. I have "met" several wonderful ladies and have learned so many new things, about blogging and decor. This blog has been a great outlet for me. A place where I can be more creative, take risks, and voice my opinions. I started the blog a little over a year after we had actually moved in to our rental. It would have been so nice to have been able to do it from the start. But I'm glad I started when I did (or at all). I had stalked a few other blogs, mainly Sarah from Thrifty Decor Chick . She was the main reason I decided to start the blog. I love her witty humor and down to earth projects. She gave me the confidence I needed. I had a very slow start. I didn't know about link parties, networking, or blogging more than once a week :). Gradually I learned, and gradually you all started to take notice. Now, I'm not even close to being a big blog, but I am so grateful for all the support I've been given.  My kitchen layout post has had over a 1,000 views. My all time biggest post. I love this little blog, and I really look forward to taking it to the next level.
Which brings me to the major announcement ::

We are moving!!!!!!!!!!! I know I said it before, but this time it's for real. Not only are we moving, we are moving out of state! We are going back to Indiana! Indianapolis to be exact. We are almost completely packed up and ready. We hope to be in the new place by the end of April.

We will be moving into a 3 bedroom apartment. We are in a 2 bedroom duplex now. With the added bedroom we are also getting a balcony extra bathroom and dining room. We couldn't be happier. I have so many new ideas for the apartment. You can check out my Pinterest

to see some of the ideas I am hoping to incorporate.

The move is bittersweet for us. We are so excited to move forward with our lives and careers. But we are both really sad about leaving the life, family, and jobs we have here behind. I think this is common in most movers. It's always sad to let the past go. But we are powering through it and trying to focus on the positives of it all.

And because no post is complete without a couple of pictures, here is what our house looks like mid move ::

I have also updated the house tour tab. The rooms now say finished instead of in progress. It was a little sad to update it to that. I had a lot of plans for this little house. :) But I have a lot more for the new one.

Blogging might be a little slow around here for a bit. I still plan on doing WIW and Our Week In Photos. Stick with me though, I have a lot in store!!
